Outcomes of the AGM

Thanks to those members who attended the Flinders ArchSoc AGM yesterday. It was a succinct, productive meeting and fortunately we were able to achieve quorum this year.

Congratulations to those members who were elected to the ArchSoc committee in 2015. We hope that your term is successful and effective. Please see the table below to find out who is part of the 2015 committee. Please be aware that we are yet to elect a Vice President. We will be looking for a new Vice President early in 2015.

Congratulations also to our newest Honorary Life Members, Andrew Wilkinson and Claire Smith. We thank Andrew and Claire for their commitment to ArchSoc in the past and welcome their involvement in the future. Look out for a full article about these Honorary Life Members in the next issue of Dig It.

Archaeology: just can’t get it off my mind. Semester Two O Week

We are running a stall at the FlindersOne ‘O’ Week: 10am-3pm Monday-Thursday in the Refectory (food court) at Flinders.

A few people ventured down to the many displays manned by representatives of Flinders University’s numerous clubs and societies today, but hopefully we see a few more new (and familiar) faces for the rest of the week.

We are selling memberships, merchandise and tickets to our raffle*. So if you haven’t introduced yourself yet, come down, find out what we’re up to this semester and maybe even join up!

Welcome Drinks in the Coopers Bar

ArchSoc is holding an informal ‘Welcome to ArchSoc’ get together at the Coopers Bar in the Plaza at Flinders THIS FRIDAY (16th March) 4-6pm.

We’d love to see and get to know our new members! Bring along a friend, have a few drinks, get to know each other, hear about the events we have lined up, and if you have any ideas or suggestions for upcoming events we’d love to hear them! (You can pay membership at this event @ $15).

You will need to RSVP so we can let the Coopers Bar know our numbers. If you would like to come, please email Nessa on beas0018@flinders.edu.au

As of this week, ArchSoc has an astounding 93 members, which includes past and present students, staff and friends. This unprecedented number is fantastic for our ‘small’, local student group because we have almost reached a number equal to that of 10% of the Australian Archaeological Association’s member base!

So come help us celebrate this great new year. We hope to see you Friday!

Jordan. On behalf of the ArchSoc committee.

Membership

We now have 85 members! This is only 15 away from our goal of 100, so please contribute to the Society by seeking us out and paying your membership. Our membership base includes undergraduates (a good mix of first second and third year students), post-graduates, staff, friends and affiliates. Unfortunately our early bird discount has now lapsed and the price has been restored to $15. The best way to pay membership is by emailing Jordan via ralp0019@flinders.edu.au and organising a time. Alternatively, you can attend ArchSoc’s first BBQ of the year on Thursday, 8th of March following the Department Seminar at 3pm in Social Sciences South RM 149 (The BBQ is likely to start at 4pm). Sausages and veggie patties are $2 each. ArchSoc will also be selling the Department T-shirts at $20 each.

February 2012 Update

Uni is starting up for another year and we have recruited our first batch of members during ‘o’ week. The archaeology department here at Flinders held their annual awards ceremony and ‘Meet the New Graduates’ BBQ. ArchSoc helped with catering this event; it was very enjoyable. We were able to recruit 26 members at this event (not including our life-member, Vincent Megaw!).

Membership is open to everybody, undergraduates, graduates, staff, industry, affiliates and other interested individuals. Join ArchSoc by contacting one of the executive or attending an event. To increase our member base from as early as possible, ArchSoc decided to lower the membership fee to $10 for the first two weeks of uni. The regular price will apply after the 2nd of March.

During week 1, ArchSoc will have a stall in the Humanities Courtyard outside of RM 112 at Flinders between 9am and 3pm.

By 3pm Tuesday 28th February, we had 50 members; our goal for 2012 is 100 members! So a big thank you to all those that have already signed up and for those that are thinking of doing so, please come and meet us.

We have just approved and finalised two events that coincide with National Archaeology Week and About Time: SA History Month in May 2012. Details of these events will be advertised on this site as well as here: http://www.abouttime.sa.gov.au/ closer to the date

Look out for us in the SA History Month Magazine!!
