Prospecting the History of the Hills: Volunteer Opportunity in Prospect Hill

Over the weekend of the 29th and 30th of September, ArchSoc will be conducting a field survey at the site of the Deputy Surveyor-General of South Australia, Thomas Burr’s camp in Prospect Hill, South Australia. During this project we will be helping the Prospect Hill Historical Museum and the Prospect Hill Community Association Inc. to identify and interpret material evidence of the existence of the 19th Century surveyor’s camp, which was inhabited by Thomas Burr and his family during the c.1840s.

Participants in this project will assist ArchSoc in producing a high-quality, publishable report about the historical and archaeological backgrounds of the area. Following the field survey, participants will also help in collating the survey data to be included in a final report. The final report will be presented to the Prospect Hill Historical Museum.

Pubcrawl theme search!

Hey ArchSoc-ers!

We hope you’ve enjoyed your holidays, and gotten back into the swing of study first week back. We’ve been busy organising more exciting things for you this semester, including another pubcawl some time in October (dates to be confirmed). But we need your help with something…

We are struggling with a theme this semester, and would love to hear your suggestions, like a rainbow theme, a certain movie, book, even a pun – let us know! The most creative will be put into a poll for you to vote on, and the most popular will be our theme for the night with matching shirts!

Let us know your suggestions by Friday, 10th of August, and the poll will be available shortly afterwards.

So get those creative gears cranking, and get in contact with us via facebook, twitter, email (archsoccommittee@gmail.com), in person, or simply leave a comment here!

To prevent duplicate ideas from past years, previous themes were:

  • Indiana Jones (of course);
  • pirates (arrrr-chaeology);
  • horror (aaaaaahhh-chaeology);
  • the A(rchaeology)-Team;
  • Star Wars (how many Leias in your trench?); and
  • Everyday I’m Shovellin’ (shufflin’)

Archaeology: just can’t get it off my mind. Semester Two O Week

We are running a stall at the FlindersOne ‘O’ Week: 10am-3pm Monday-Thursday in the Refectory (food court) at Flinders.

A few people ventured down to the many displays manned by representatives of Flinders University’s numerous clubs and societies today, but hopefully we see a few more new (and familiar) faces for the rest of the week.

We are selling memberships, merchandise and tickets to our raffle*. So if you haven’t introduced yourself yet, come down, find out what we’re up to this semester and maybe even join up!
